President Jonathan Holds Secret Peace Meeting with Governor Amaechi
After several political battles between President Goodluck and the Rivers state Governor, Rotimi Amaechi that has even resulted in casualties when loyalist of both the president and the governor at the Rivers State House of Assembly engaged each other in fisticuffs, indications have emerged that the President Jonathan is set to peacelly reconcile his differences with Governor Amaechi
Highly placed presidential sources confirmed that both principal actors in the crises that have recently crippled the oil rich state held a secret meeting in the Aso rock presidential villa on Friday night.
Though details of the meeting still remain sketchy multiple presidential sources that spoke about the meeting said it was towards bringing lasting peace to the South South state.
President Jonathan and Governor Amaechi had been in a bitter war with each other since the later was rumoured to be nursing an ambition of becoming a Vice-Presidential candidate to Governor Sule Lamido of Jigawa state in the 2015 election.
The battle was further aggravated by the victory of Governor Amaechi at the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, NGF election, which Amaechi by defeating his rival, Governor Jona Jang of Plateau state believed to have the backing of the President.
President Jonathan and his wife, Patience had also attempted to use five anti-Amaechi lawmakers to impeach the Rivers governor, a move that had of late lowered the already bad reputation of the Jonathan presidency.
However, the meeting of the two warring political figures signals peace ahead if it is done with sincerity and to a logical conclusion.
President Jonathan had hinted about a peace deal few days ago when he met with the President of the Nigeria Bar Association, NBA, Okey Wali in the presidential villa.
