President Buhari Declines Assent To Police Procurement Bill, Others
President Muhammadu Buhari, has declined assent to the Police Procurement Bill 2017 due to lack of clarity regarding the manner of disbursement of funds and constitutional issues regarding the powers of the National Assembly to appropriate funds allocated to the 36 states of the federation and the 774 local government.
This was contained in a letter to the House of Representatives.
Other Bills declined are the Chartered Institute of Public Management of Nigeria bill 2017 and the Nigerian Council for social work establishment bill 2017.
The President, in the letter revealed that the decision was in pursuant to section 58(4) of the 1999 constitution as amended, pointing out that lack of clarity was responsible for the decision.
On the Chartered Institute of Public Management of Nigeria bill 2017, and the Nigeria Council for Social Work Establishment bill 2017, the president said he declined assent on the bills due to their lack of clarity and its Prohibition of persons who are not members of the institute from practicing.
