Presidency Explains Why Heads Of Govt Agencies Were Sacked
Barely a day after twenty six Executive Officers of Parastatals and Government Agencies were sacked by President Muhammadu Buhari, the presidency has yesterday given the likely reasons as to why the affected officers were fired.
The Senior Special Assistant on Media to the President, Malam Garba Shehu said the sacking of DGs and MDs might not be unconnected with their inability to inculcate the “change mantra” of Buhari’s APC led administration into their various organisations and agency.
According the media aide, who was fielding questions on the development on the Hausa Service of the BBC the sacking of the 26 officers was not political contrary to the people’s perception that the disengagement of the officers was politically motivated.
He noted that if the sacking was political, the president would have done that since his assumption of office but exercised patience and worked with them for a period of seven months, emphasising that the president had the prerogative to sack them all the first day he assumed office.
In furtherance to that, the media aide said, “there are about 500 parastatals and agencies under the control of the FG but only 26 were affected” , adding that, “ if it is political heads of those agencies and parastatales would have been sacked.”
He said, “we have given them enough time to adjust but realised that their actions are not in line with Buhari’s change agenda and Nigerian who voted for this “change” must welcome,” he added.
