Polythecnic Lecturers Suspends 10-Month Old Strike, To Resume on Tuesday
The 10-month old strike embarked upon by the Academic Staff union of Polytechnics, ASUP, has suspended.
The suspension of the strike which started in October,was announced by ASUP on Saturday morning after the National Executive Council, NEC, meeting of the union held in Abuja.
The union had few days ago met with the new Education Minister, Ibrahim Shekarau, where it was revealed that the leadership of the union held a ‘fruitful’ meeting with the government after the then supervising minister, Nyesom Wike failed for several months to resolve the issue.
Shekarau was sworn-in by President Goodluck Jonathan on Wednesday.
The National Publicity Secretary of ASUP, Clement Chairman, confirmed the suspension of the strike and said all striking lecturers have been directed to resume work on Tuesday.
