Police Abort The Abuja #ENDIMPUNITYNOW Rally.
The peaceful protest organized by a civil society group to demand the removal of the Petroleum Minister by the president or her resignation as alternative, over involvement in the fuel subsidy fraud and implementation of the report has been aborted by the police.
The campaigners led by Jaye Gaskia who are also asking the government to address the security situation in the country and the incessant hike in electricity tariff had gathered at the Headquarters of the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation in Abuja in a protest they have tagged ‘End Impunity Now’.
They however faced resistance from over 30 well armed policemen who refused to allow them access to the premises and asked them to get a permit from the FCT Police Command before they can hold the protest.
Although the protesters argued that there is an existing law which allows Nigerians to organise protests without police permit, they however dispersed to forestall any breakdown of law and order.
They have vowed to return back and continue the protest.
