Please Redeploy This Robber-Policemen, Residents Tell IGP, SCID

Appeals have gone to the Inspector General of Police and authorities of the Oyo State Criminal Investigation Department (S.C.I.D) to redeploy the leader  of the State Anti-Robbery Squad SARS) of  Oyo town, Mr. Sola Aremu who is a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP).

The residents said they voiced out their minds after “our silence is becoming criminal”.

They explained that they now go to bed with fear that armed robbers may come visiting at midnight as they operate as if there is no security agents in the ancient town.

Many of the residents, who craved anonymity, warned that the activities of the DSP, if not properly sanctioned, may endanger the lives and properties of the people. They added “our investigations shows that DSP Aremu has been abetting criminals ever since he was deployed to the ancient city”.

One of them, who spoke on behalf of the residents, said that the spate of armed robbery and all forms of anti-social behaviours is alarming as people now live in fear rather than sleep tight.

His words: “recently, a bus carrying bags of rice was falsely apprehended by SARS team led by DSP Aremu and later, we got to know that his boys have offloaded the content in the bus to an unknown destination. We later learnt that it was a planned work designed by DSP Aremu and his team. Even if the owner is a smuggler, the next thing to do is not to offload the goods but to take the necessary legal action(s).

He went further: “Also, he’s into the business of collecting bribe to release criminals that are torn in our flesh while his attitude of renting out guns to criminals is not in the dark. It’s obvious that he borrow guns to criminals.

“Information at our disposal also alludes to the fact that he leads pipeline vandals to illegally scoop oils. His boys also steal diesel from telecommunication mast engines at midnights and sell it to unsuspecting members of the public. All the indian hemp sellers are his clients and they are ‘untouchables’ as DSP Aremu is on their payrolls. We cannot even say he was not a mastermind of most robbery incidents in Oyo, especially that of Stanbic and UBA as none of those apprehended stayed longer in prison before they were released”.

They noted that no day has gone without news of armed robbery in the ancient town, adding that rather rise to the ocassion, DSP Aremu has busied himself riding new cars. They wondered where a DSP could have gotten money to buy three “tear rubber” cars in a space of one month. They advised that DSP should be investigated to confirm their allegations.

Meanwhile, the residents have commended the activities of the men of the Oyo State Security Task Force codenamed ‘Operation Burst’ for their efforts at ridding the town of miscreants and criminals, warning that they shouldn’t allow themselves to be influenced by the activities of the SARS men who take bribes from drivers and criminals. “We cannot but commend the leader of Operation Burst in Oyo for rejecting the ‘dubious advances’ by DSP Aremu to work together. We are aware of the rejection of money by the Operation Burst team from the SARS team on behalf of criminals and miscreants. The act is commendable”.
