PLANE CRASH: FASHOLA EXPRESSES SHOCK, CONDOLES WITH FAMILIES OF VICTIMS
Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola (SAN), has condoled with the families of victims of Sunday’s air crash involving a DANA Airline with 153 passengers on board at the Iju – Ishaga area of the State.
Governor Fashola, in a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media, Mr. Hakeem Bello, also expressed shock at the incident which, reportedly, occurred as the aircraft approached the vicinity of the Murtala Mohammed Airport, Ikeja.
The Governor expressed deep sorrow that the expectations of the families to welcome their loved ones at the end of the journey was cut short in such an abrupt and unexpected manner adding that the experience could be traumatic.
“It is unfortunate that your expectations to welcome and embrace your loved ones after their journey could be cut short so abruptly and in such unexpected manner. There is no gainsaying the experience could be traumatic”, Governor Fashola said, regretting that the incident would destabilize homes as well as cause disruption to the lives of the affected families.
The Governor also condoled with residents of the crash site in Iju-Ishaga whose houses and properties were either damaged or destroyed as the plane crashed
The Governor also advised that people should stop sending panicky Blackberry messages pointing out that emergency operations have been mobilized while relevant officers were on ground to deal with the situation at hand.
He also called on the people living in the area to keep away from the crash site both for their own safety and in order to allow the emergency workers to do their work pointing out that the environment of the crash site bears large concentration of carbon monoxide which is dangerous to human health.
Noting that the details of the crash were yet to be made public, the Governor, however, prayed for the repose of the souls of the 153 victims and that the Almighty God would grant the families the fortitude to bear their irreparable losses.
