How PDP’s Fayose Defeated APC’s Fayemi in Ekiti State Governorship Election
PDP governorship candidate, Mr Ayo Fayose has been elected the Governor of Ekiti State after winning in all 16 local government areas of the state. In the results announced by Independent National Election Commission, INEC Local
Government Returning Officers across the state, Fayose, who was governor of Ekiti between 2003 and 2006 polled 203, 090 votes while incumbent governor Kayode Fayemi of APC came second with 120, 433 votes.
Labour Party’s Opeyemi Bamidele was in distance third.
Meanwhile, the APC leadership has issued a statement, rejecting the outcome of the election.

The Returning Officer, before announcing the results, called on party agents of the various political parties that participated in the elections to sign for the results sheet which indicates that they agree to the process and the election result.
Professor Azuzu said ” I wish to announce that Dr Tope Aluko of the PDP and Mr Dele of the National Conscience Party, NCP, have signed the result sheet”.

Meanwhile, Elombah.com has learnt that APC might challenge the outcome of the election result in court but APC governorship candidate, Kayode Fayemi’s camp told this newspaper they are willing to accept the result “in the interest of the Ekiti people.”
Earlier the military has locked down Ekiti State preventing rigging and reducing vote buying to the barest minimum.
The security presence in the state is put at at 36,590 comprising of Mopol 3,170, Regular police 12,340, Soldiers 4,280, SSS 1,800 and Civil Defense 15,000.
Independent election observers told elombah.com the election and ballot counting in the governorship election voting exercise witnessed large turnout of voters and had been a peaceful process with heavy security presence in the state.
Voters waited patiently after casting their votes in the Saturday election to get the results from their polling booths. They echoed results as ad-hoc officials of the electoral body counted the ballots in Ado Ekiti, the capital of the state.
“Voters have conducted themselves in a peaceful manner right from when accreditation started in the morning. Security operatives hoover around the area in helicopter to ensure that there is law and order,” one of the correspondents said.
The security operatives, however, arrested some young men in Ado Ekiti and took them away. They did not disclose the crime committed by the men.
Accreditation started some minutes after eight and it lasted till about 12:30pm. Voting started immediately with voters presenting their permanent voter’s card.
Although about 18 political parties have presented candidates for the election, candidates of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Dr. Kayode Fayemi, Peoples Democratic Party, Ayo Fayose and Labour Party, Opeyemi Bamidele were the top 3 contenders for the position.
