PDP Warns APC Against Sweeping the Feet of President Jonathan After its Saturday Rally in Osogbo
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in OSun state has warned the All Progressives Congress (APC), not to attempt its ritual sweeping of President Jonathan’s feet after its grand rally scheduled for Osogbo on Saturday.
The warning is coming ahead of the visit by President Jonathan who will lead big-wigs of the party to Osogbo, Osun state capital on Saturday for a mega rally to drum up support for its candidate in the August 9, governorship poll, Senator Iyiola Omisore.
Addressing a press conference in Osogbo, on Thursday, the Publicity Secretary of Osun PDP, Mr. Bola Ajao, said, “It is common with APC members to sweep the venue of the PDP rally whenever the President visits any state, but I want to warn them not to try it this time around. They should keep all their dirty brooms in their homes.”
He said the essence of the President’s visit was to promote the candidacy of Omisore.
Ajao maintained that the President’s visit to the state would further boast the chances of Omisore and the PDP in the forthcoming election.
He said security operatives had already been deployed to the state in preparation for the President’s visit, saying, “It is normal that security operatives are deployed ahead of time to any state where the President wants to visit.”
The PDP spokesperson said the President will pay a courtesy visit to the Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuwade, at his palace on his arrival.
Others expected to join the president in the trip to Osogbo include PDP National Chairman, Alhaji Adamu Muazu, Vice-President Namadi Sambo, Senate President, David Mark, Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu and amongst others.
