PDP Suspends 27 River State Lawmakers Loyal to Governor Amaechi
There is no letting down in the desperate attempt by the Presidency and the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party to whittle down the powers of River state governor, Rotimi Amaechi as the party executive in River state loyal to servicing minister, Monday suspended 27 members of the State House of Assembly loyal to governor Amaechi.
According to the River state Chapter of the party, the suspension is necessitated by the assembly’s refusal to recall the suspended Obio/Akpor local government chairman, Timothy Nsirim and his executive council.
The suspension affects the Speaker, Deputy Speaker and the Leader of the House, who are all pro-Amaechi lawmakers.
The assembly had on April 22 suspended the Obio/Akpor Council chairman, his deputy and 17 councillors for alleged reckless spending of public funds, but when the Abuja-installed chairman of the party in Rivers State, Mr Felix Obuah assumed office, he gave the members of the assembly and the governor 48 hours to rescind their decision, describing their actions as “appalling and disgraceful”, and warned that the PDP executive might be left with no option than to take disciplinary action against them.
Having failed to carry out the order therefore, the Felix Obuah led executive disclosed that the assembly members have been suspended from the party with immediate effect. The decision was taken in Port Harcourt on Monday, after an emergency meeting of the party exco, the Party chairman, said.
