PDP State Chairmen Back Jonathan, Tukur
The 36 state chairmen of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) under the aegis of Conference of PDP State Chairmen yesterday said they were totally behind the leadership of Alhaji Bamanga Tukur as national chairman of the PDP.
They also pledged their loyalty to President Jonathan, saying, “We do not believe in any approach that would stampede the smooth running of our great party especially so when external influence is being insinuated.”
The position of the state chairmen was contained in a communique signed by their chairman, Emmanuel Agbo, and read at a press conference at the national secretariat of the PDP in Abuja.
According to the communiqué, the chairmen met on Sunday: “We wish to implore our teeming members and supporters to remain steadfast as there is no need to panic, because the transformation programme of the PDP-led administration will surely take us to 2015 and beyond.”
They also faulted members of the party for expressing personal grievances without due process, noting: “We appreciate the genuine efforts being put together by our party elders at dousing tension within the party, and we urge them not to relent.”
But states whose chairmen attended the press conference include Zamfara, Kaduna, Katsina, Oyo, Cross River, Adamawa, Yobe, Ekiti, Benue, Kogi, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Nasarawa, Ondo, Lagos, Gombe, Ogun, Osun, FCT, and Plateau, while 17 state chairmen were absent.
Among the state chairmen absent were those of the aggrieved states including Kano, Kwara, Sokoto, Niger, and Jigawa who were absent at the press conference. However, factional chairmen of Adamawa State and Rivers states, Joel Madaki and Felix Obuah, represented their states.
