PDP Spent N24bn to Appeal Osun Governorship Poll – Aregbesola
Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola, on Thursday accused the Peoples Democratic Party of spending N24bn allocation meant for the state to execute the August 9 governorship poll in the state.
Aregbesola said this at Ira near Arakeji off Ilesa-Akure Expressway at the inauguration of the 225 kilometre road project embarked upon by the Rural Access Mobility Project.
He said despite the huge funds allegedly used in bribing voters to vote against him, the majority of the voters, especially women, stood behind him and voted massively for him.
He said, “The Federal Government denied us N24bn which is our money. They spent the money they denied us during the August 9 election.
“I salute those of you who collected their money and refused to vote for them. Those of you who collected their money and voted for them, I won’t salute you but I have nothing against you.
“I don’t have any problem with the Federal Government but I have problem with their party- the PDP.”
The governor also said that 103,000 security agents were deployed in the state for the governorship poll, saying with the figure, each of the 3010 poling units was manned by 25 security agents.
He described the election as a war but added that the people of the state rose up against the “war mongers” who he said wanted to take over power by fraudulent means.
Aregbesola assured his supporters that nothing would come out of the petition filed to challenge his victory by the governorship candidate of the PDP, Senator Iyiola Omisore.
But the Chairman of the PDP in Osun State, Alhaji Gani Olaoluwa, debunked the claim that the party spent Osun State’s allocation to appeal the election result.
Olaoluwa said that Aregbesola was trying to put the blame on the door step of the Federal Government because the time had come for him to pay back the money he borrowed to bribe voters during the election.
The PDP chairman said that the governor had wasted the state’s funds to secure his purported victory at the poll but he said that the tribunal would sack him due to the deluge of evidence the party had at its disposal.
He said, “Is it possible for the Federal Government to spend a state’s allocation to prosecute election? Is that reasonable? The governor is trying to blame everybody excluding himself because those who he borrowed from have started asking him to repay the loan.
“We said it then that he borrowed money from Rivers and Lagos states to pay workers and to bribe but the payback time has come.
“We are assuring the people of the state that the PDP will retrieve its stolen mandate from Aregbesola and we will put smiles on their faces again.”
