PDP Govs Endorse Jonathan for Second Term as Party Fixes Dec 6 for Primaries
Governors in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have endorsed President Goodluck Jonathan as the sole candidate of the party for the forthcoming general election which would hold in February 2015.
The governors had a meeting in Abuja, after which the chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party Governors’ Forum, Chief Godswill Akpabio, made the announcement.
Addressing journalists alongside other governors, Akpabio called on all PDP faithfuls nationwide to support the decision to enable Jonathan become the only presidential aspirant and candidate of the party.
“The Forum hereby endorses Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan (GCFR) President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria for a second term in office and resolved to support his bid for re-election come 2015
“The Forum urges all PDP faithful to support this gesture which should enable the President to become the sole Presidential candidate of the PDP come 2015.
Governors who attended the meeting include Godswill Akpabio (Akwa Ibom), Sullivan Chime (Enugu), Jonah Jang (Plateau), Seriake Dickson (Bayelsa), Theodore Orji (Abia), Ibrahim Dankwambo (Gombe), Idris Wada (Kogi), Liyel Imoke (Cross River), Emmanuel Uduaghan (Delta), Ramallan Yero (Kaduna), Gabriel Suswam (Benue), Babangida Aliyu (Niger), Saidu Dakingari(Kebbi); Ahmadu Fintiri and Umar Garba (acting governors Adamawa and Taraba); as well as deputy governors of Jigawa, Katsina, Sokoto and Nasarawa states, Mahmoud Gumel, Abdullahi Faskari, Mukhtar Shagari and Damishi Luka.
Meanwhile, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has fixed its presidential primaries for December 6, 2014.
This was disclosed by the national publicity secretary of the PDP, Chief Olisa Metuh, who also said the party has fixed the primaries for governorship positions for November 29 and National Assembly primaries for November 22.
Metuh disclosed that these were the proposals arrived at by the party ahead of its NEC meeting today which will ratify the dates.
The PDP caucus had met Tuesday at the Presidential Villa ahead of the NEC, while the Board of Trustees of the party (BoT) met last night also at the villa.
The meetings deliberated on the guidelines and procedures for the party primaries.
However, a source in the PDP revealed that the sale of forms for ward congress will commence on October 27 and 28.
The source further revealed that the party has directed all aspiring public servants, government appointed officers and elected officials in the party ahead of 2015 to resign seven days before the commencement of the sale of ward forms.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed February 14 for the presidential and National Assembly elections while the governorship and state assembly elections will hold on February 28.
