PDP Fails To Own Up To Forex Trading Allegations Against Buhari’s Wife, Aide, Others
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has failed to own up to an allegation made on its twitter account that the wife of President Muhammadu Buhari, Aisha, and the President’s Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, received forex from the Central Bank of Nigeria.
Speaking in an interview with Thisday, PDP’s Head of Publicity, Mrs. Chinwe Nnorom, recalled that the twitter account of the party was hacked into which led to its temporary suspension.
She said she would need to cross-check properly to know whether indeed the tweets actually originated from the opposition party.
The PDP, at its twitter handle, had alleged that Aisha Buhari and her unnamed company had been involved in buying about $22 million from the CBN at the official rates and selling same at the black market.
It also alleged that the Senior Special Assistant to President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, made a total of N280m dealing in forex.
Both Aisha Buhari ad Garba Shehu have since denied the allegations.
The Central Bank of Nigeria has also denied the allegation, describing it as “not only ridiculous but laughable.”
