PDP Delegates Adopt Gen. Marwa For Adamawa Governorship Seat
Former military governor of Lagos state and governorship aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Adamawa state, retired General Mohammed Buba Marwa was today adopted as the PDP governorship candidate in the forthcoming gubernatorial election in the state by all the 335 delegates of the party from all the 77 wards in the Adamawa Central Senatorial district.
Chairman of the PDP in the district, Alhaji Danjuma Iliyasu who spoke at a meeting where General Marwa was assured of the party’s ticket said their decision was based on the former envoy’s unbeatable records of service in Borno and Lagos states where he had served as military administrator before. The party’s chieftain said it is the desire of everybody in Adamawa state to see such enviable performance replicated in the state.
Iliyasu lamented that while most states in the federation were enjoying dividends of democracy, the reverse is the case in Adamawa due to bad leadership, adding that it has therefore become a challenge to the delegates and all Adamawa citizens to rally round Marwa in order to transform the state in terms of socio-economic development of the state. He stressed that the deplorable condition of the state calls for total support for Marwa so that he can bring his development expertise to bear in Adamawa state which he said is seriously begging for infrastructural development in all facets.
Addressing the delegates and PDP leadership in the Senatorial District, General Marwa thanked them for his endorsement and pledged to provide the state a purposeful leadership that would be the envy of all in the country if given the opportunity. He assured them that socio-economic and infrastructural development would top his priorities if elected, adding that he would equally offer compulsory free qualitative healthcare services and free education for Adamawa children and youths who he said are the bedrock of development in any society.
He appealed to them to keep faith with his endorsement and pledged to also keep faith to the confidence reposed in him even as he debunked the rumour making the round that the presidency had already imposed a gubernatorial candidate for the party in the next elections, saying that such was the machination of mischief makers out to dent the good image of President Goodluck Jonathan and the presidency. To be sure that all the delegates support the endorsement read by the Chairman of the party, it was learnt that Marwa asked all delegates who will truly vote for him in the coming party’s primary to signify by raising up their hands and all the 335 delegates raised their hands supported by their chorus voice votes.
Following the impeachment of Admiral Murtala Nyako as governor of the state by the state lawmakers, another election is due to be conducted to elect a substantive governor within the next three months.
