PDP Appeals Committee Clears Fintiri to Contest Adamawa Gubernatorial Poll
The Governorship Appeal Screening committee of the Peoples Democratic Party has cleared the Acting Governor of Adamawa State, Alhaji Umar Fintiri, to take part in its forthcoming governorship primary in the state.
Fintiri was cleared by the appeal panel on Sunday after examining the complain lodged by the acting governor following his disqualification by the Screening Committee headed by Sen. Ibrahim Mantu on Saturday.
Mantu’s committee had yesterday disqualified Fintiri on the grounds the acting governor violated section 191, subsections (2) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).
It however emerged that Fintiri was disqualified not because of the constitutional provisions, but because governors under the platform of the PDP wanted him and the former Chairman of the economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Nuhu Ribadu stopped.
While they hinged their reason for Fintiri’s as a move aimed at discouraging rebellion from other assembly speakers, that of Ribadu was seen as a yet-to-abate political rivalry.
