Look for Another Party to Realise Your Governorship Ambition, Labour Party Leaders Tell Bamidele
The ambition of a former All Progressives Congress (APC) lawmaker, Mr Opeyemi Bamidele to run for the governorship election of Ekiti State has come under serious threat as leaders of the Labour Party (LP) which he intends to use in running for the election has said he cannot run on the party’s platform.
Mr Bamidele recently dumped the All Progressives Congress to the Labour Party where he is currently warming up to contest the June governorship election, following what he described as the imposition of the incumbent Governor of Ekiti, Mr Kayode Fayemi State as the party’s flagbearer.
But stakeholders in his new party including its three Senatorial Chairmen, Banji Omotoso (South), Felix Adedayo (Central) and Deji Adesina (North) said they have resolved to zone the governorship slot to Ekiti South Senatorial District.
The leaders in their claims, said they were the founders and sponsors of the party in the State since year 2011.
In a communique issued yesterday after an emergency meeting held in Ado-Ekiti, a copy of which was made available to newsmen in Akure, the Ondo State Capital, the Party leaders said “human beings are structures of any political Party and we still have the structure on ground”.
They maintained that the last executives were still in total grip of the Party, stressing that no fresh convention has been held in the State.
The Communique signed by Mr Banji Omotoso, a former LP Aspirant for Ekiti South Constituency 1 said “we leaders of the Party have concluded plans to zone the governorship slot to Ekiti South District of the State”
It noted that the present LP executive committee was a family affair, where the National Legal Adviser and the Organising Secretary are blood brothers.
The Communique urged the governorship aspirant to search for other political parties where he could nurse his ambition, stressing that LP has already zoned its slot to the South Senatorial District of Ekiti State.
