Over 300 Boko Haram Militants Killed in Fierce Battle with Nigerian Troops
A fierce gun battle between Nigerian troops and Boko Haram insurgents in Adamawa may have led to the death of over 300 of the insurgents.
The troops had launched an offensive to recapture Michika, killed many of the insurgents and took control of the town before making an advance towards Gulak, where they met the stiff resistance of the Boko Haram fighters.
This led to a heavy gun duel that entered into several hours and was said to be ongoing as at the time of this report.
“The Nigerian troops have gained entry into Michika and are now fully in control of the town having killed a lot of them (the insurgents),” a source said.
The sources, however, added that it has not been an easy feat for the Nigerian troops as they are facing stiff resistance from the insurgents as they advance towards Gulak.
He added that that both sides have been in a prolonged gun duel as many insurgents and ammunitions were deployed to counter the troops.
“There is heavy fighting between the insurgents and Nigerian troops as the insurgents are doing everything to frustrate the effort of the Nigerian troops and many people who are trapped in the towns are now sneaking out following intensified fighting,” our source said.
SaharaReporters reported earlier that the Boko Haram fighters killed at least 70 soldiers in a fierce battle for control of the towns of Bazza and Vimtim. Vimtim is the hometown of Nigeria’s Chief of Defense Staff, Alex Badeh and is within the same axis of Michika and Gulak.
With Michika now in control of the troops, the battle as at the time of this report is to retake Gulak which the Boko Haram insurgents are not relenting on protecting.
“The gallant Nigerians soldiers were attacked from the back by the militants but the military men engaged them in a fierce battle for over five hours back.”
