Osun 2014: Memo to Senator Akinlabi and My Expectation from His Campaign Crew By Femi Adesola
Abdulrasheed Olasunkanmi Akinlabi is a 57 year-old former senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria that represented Osun West Senatorial district from 2003 to 2007 and former Minister of Youth Development from 2007 to 2011, who hails from Odeomu in Ayedaade Local Government. Akinlabi attended Howard University in the United States of America and also earned a Masters degree in Business aAdministration from Colombia University. Senator Akinlabi is a banker by profession and a successful business man. He held the roles of vice chairman of the Senate committee on education and Ad-hoc Senate committee with the aim of investigating a corruption case involving the President and Vice President.
He was appointed a Minister responsible for Youth Development in the cabinet of president Yaradua and retained the same portfolio in the administration of Dr Goodluck Jonathan making him the only member of the cabinet inherited after the demise of Yaradua by Goodluck Jonathan to retain same portfolio. He has been nursing the ambition of becoming Osun State Governor since 2010.
He has launched his campaign group called SOAR (Senator Olasunkanmi Akinlabi Rasheed ) an Acronyms from his name and his website launched as well. As a matter of Fact, Senator Akinlabi has a vast knowledge of administration been a senator for four years and a minister for four years as well. His regime as the Minister recorded some success as allowances of National Youth Service Corps was increased from N9800 to N19800 and restructuring of the NYSC scheme with some skills acquisition training and lots. He was also the brain behind building of Youth Empowerment Center across the six geo political zone of Nigeria which his home town Odeomu was a beneficiary of.
I share in the word of Ambrose bierce which said and I quote ‘A politician thinks of the next election while a statesman think of the next generation’ that’s a food for thought for our dear Senator Akinlabi Olasunkanmi, who publicly declared openly that his party will wrestle power from incumbent governor and wipe out his unpopular policies come July 2014 in Osun state. May I call Senator Akinlabi attention to some believes that financial capacity and Newspaper interviews is not the basis for our people to choose whom to vote for but a Plain and honest manisfesto.
Of the entire leading aspirant in Osun state PDP, Akinlabi Records and Experience poses a threat to the Present Government, but what are the alternatives provided for the Aregbesola’s unpopular policies? Where is Senator Akinlabi manifesto and plans for the good people of Osun state? Should his slogan be the tools to win Osun voters or his manifesto?
What will senator Akinlabi do better in the health, education, security, agriculture, infrastructural development that the present government has not done should be the alternatives for Osun residents to choose from and not newspaper interviews and Slogans.
Senator Akinlabi Campaign Crew should use his manifestoes to convince the electorate.
