Opposition Parties Will End Clueless, Corrupt Leadership In Nigeria – Buhari
Former military Head of State, General Muhammadu Buhari who was also the 2011 presidential candidate of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC)has said the major opposition parties; Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) and Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) are coming together in a merger to bring an end to the reign of clueless and corrupt leaders in the country .
Buhari who spoke in Abuja today at the public presentation of the book ‘The Accidental Public Servant’ authored by the former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mallam Nasir el-Rufai lamented the destruction of legacies left by colonial masters by the country’s past leaders, adding that the newly formed All Progressive Congress, APC will reverse the trend by restoring the country to the path of glory. “I think that the bottom line is that we want to mobilize Nigerians toward 2015, to secure and manage Nigeria”, he stated.
“The police, the judiciary, the military, the civil service. And even compared with other countries, you will have some respect for the British. From the end of World War (1), to World War (11), and the Civil War, every life of the Italian government about nine months, and if you look at their Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth, it went up like that. What made it possible was strong institutions.
“In Nigeria here, those who thought they were strong, they destroyed the institutions. Now, we have our problems. Paradoxically, to get strong people to come back, to revive those institutions; otherwise, we are really going to be in trouble”, Buhari further stated.
Also speaking at the event, the chairman of the launch and former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Bello Masari, tasked public office holders to always document their experiences in office, adding that “People who hold public office or who have held public office, must try to write. It is not whether what is written is right or wrong, but it is important to write one’s experience.”
At the occasion were Governors Babatunde Raji Fashola of Lagos, Umaru tanko al-Makura of Nassarawa, Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti, Babangida Aliyu of Niger and Ibrahim Dankwambo of Gombe. Others include former Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Muhammed Uwais, Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, National Chairman of CPC, Prince Tony Momoh, former Information Minister, Prof. Dora Akunyili, Pastor tunde Bakare, Alhaji Lai Mohammed who represented former Lagos State Governor, Bola Ahmed Tinubu among others.
