Open Letter To Barrister M.A Abubakar BY Sabiu Zaranda
Let me start first by congratulating my Governor Elect. I will say a very warm congratulation to you for emerging victorious but take note of the incidence that brought you to power “Buhari Hurricane”. I need to appreciate your effort of vigorous campaign throughout the nooks and crannies of Bauchi State. At least you have seen for yourself how our relatives are managing their lives in villages and hamlets. More importantly, you have seen how public fund was wasted in the name of projects. You are more than a stimulant to the people of Bauchi state for standing firm to the wishes of General Muhammadu Buhari of doing “SAK” even though some state assembly seats were taken by PDM and PDP, I do hope they will be a very stiff opposition at the state legislative chamber with a very constructive criticism.
The most outstanding mistake that the outgoing government did was to have taken the mandate given to them by Bauchi citizens for granted, thinking that there is time for politics and another for governance which caused a lot of disaffection between those in government and the governed. They played to the gallery with politics more especially their failures of honouring the campaign promises made, issues that were very emotional and close to people’s heart like that of religion and youth affairs where touts were given opportunity to be gallivanting around with public fund while graduate are roaming about jobless and some civil servant have their allowances and salaries hanging.
It has been the tradition of almost every new government to award those that rally around them during politicking with sensitive position that are mostly regarded as “juicy office” but I wish the incoming government will be able to differentiate between a politicians that live with politics and those that live for politics. Trusting greed politician with public office is the thing that should not be repeated in Bauchi state, because we have seen the effect of political entrepreneurs where everything to them is for profit making. But with the kind and calibre of people that are involved in the transition committee, one can be rest assured that if such quality of people can be upgraded a little bit then the incoming government will start on a green light.
You don’t need a sorcerer to tell you that the anti M.A Abubakar campaign was well carried out but failed due to the high incompetency of your main challenger, the utterance of PDP stake holders in the state and last minute visit of Buhari again. These and other things automatically make you a favourable candidate but not the favourite one. It’s worthy to note that people of Bauchi State didn’t cast their vote for you based on your antecedents or credibility but rather because you are the flag bearer of APC Nigeria. The very short and brief celebration done in the state after your victory is enough to tell you the stand of Bauchi citizens when compare with the kind of jubilation in our neighbouring states like Jigawa, Kano, Kaduna and Plateau.
It’s now left for you do a number of things that will make the Bauchi citizens feel that they didn’t make a wrong choice by given you their mandate. Now the choice is yours to make, its either choose the path of honour and be like other Barristers that led well in their various state such as Barr. Babatunde Fashola of Lagos state.
You cannot claim ignorance of how our party has been evolving since the state convention to date, and it will be better if a prospect of reconciliation and healing will be design to address the pressing issues. It may interest you to know that a time limit is even set for you in case if you didn’t live up to expectation. In that regard, many people will start advocating for power shift to either Bauchi Central or Bauchi North regardless of the miracle you performed. I wish you a turbulence free administration, once more again congratulations.
