The Ondo State Government, on Tuesday, directed Local Government chairmen in the state to set up the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) governing boards in the interest of the youth.
The Commissioner for Youth Development and Sports, Mr Saka Yusuf-Ogunleye, gave this directive in Oke-Agbe Akoko, headquarters of Akoko North West.
Yusuf-Ogunleye, doubles as the Chairman, Governing Board, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in the state.
He said the setting up of the board in the councils had become a necessity at this time in order to be abreast of the happenings on the affairs of corps members regularly.
“These young ones are here on national assignment just as ours are performing the same task in other parts of the country.
As they are here, their security, shelter and well being have become our responsibility and we must take this very seriously.
The way we treat them will go a long way to show our level of respect for humanity.
“The board will consist of the LG Chairman, Divisional Police Officer (DPO), DSS and councillor for youth affairs among others, whose offices are youth-related,” he said.
The commissioner added that he was in Akoko to show the youth how they could benefit from the various programmes being implemented by the Akeredolu-led administration.
