Ondo Election: ACN Plans to Lure INEC Officials with Money, Mimiko Campaign Organisation Tells Jega
The campaign organization of the Governor of Ondo state and candidate of the Labour Party in the forthcoming gubernatorial election in Ondo state, The Mimiko Campaign Organization (MCO) today called alert the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Prof Attahiru Jega of the plan by the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) lure officials of the Commission to enable them rig and subvert the popular wish of Ondo electorates in the forthcoming governorship.
In a release issued by its Director of Publicity and Media Relations, Mr Kolawole Olabisi, the Mimiko Organisation said that since it has dawned on the opposition in the State that they would lose their deposits and fail woefully in a free and fair election, they have resort to this underhand tactics of compromising some INEC Officials.
It also disclosed that officials of the commission recently met with some leaders of the ACN in Lagos to strategize on the rigging plans for the Ondo gubernatorial election.
“A meeting recently held in the home of an ACN leader in Lagos with some INEC officials where modalities were mapped out on the rigging plans in favour of the ACN candidate in the October 20th election.
“As a follow up to this, a meeting is to be held later this week in Dubai, in the Middle East, where a South West Governor who is most vociferous in the unbridled ambition of his party in annexing Ondo State is already waiting to receive them as a corollary to the Ikoyi meeting.
“We want to commend the efforts of the Prof Attahiru Jega led umpire in emplacing credible election in Nigeria and we salute INEC for the Edo State election and we are optimistic that the governorship election in Ondo State on October 20 would also be free and fair.
“But in order not to fritter away the gains by INEC in its duties and in accordance with its stance that there must be free, fair and credible elections in the nation, Prof Jega must take more than a cursory interest in what is happening in Ondo State by beaming his searchlight on the activities of some of his officials.” the statement also read.
The Organisation also warned the opposition not to attempt to subvert the popular wish of the people saying that it would be better for them to throw in the trowel now and not turn the State into a cauldron of violence.
“In a free and fair election, there is no vacancy in Ondo State and they know it; that is why they want to rig at all cost. For those who for six years which the peole of Ond State have termed ‘the six years of the locusts’ they wasted our money on jaunts and hard partying rather than on meaningful projects until the people show them the way out; they can never fool our people again. And for those who are not only aliens in the State but are hell-bent on annexing us to a dying oligarchic empire; those who desecrate our land with their darned symbol of filth, they will all lose their deposits on October 20. But to attempt to rig, is to court trouble in Ondo State as the people will not allow it, the MCO stated adding:
“Never again, we will allow gunpoint democracy in Ondo State; October 20 election will be on the basis of one-man, one-vote and it is the people that will determine who their Governor will be and not a godfather and their District Officers. As a proud inheritor of the true Omoluabi heritage, as freeborn, opposed to slaves, we say away with slave masters! Away with emperors! The era of such is gone and Ondo State people will not worship a foreign god.”
