Okigwe Senatorial Seat: Group Drums Support For Uwajumogu
As the 2015 general election gathers momentum in Imo State, a group known as the Okigwe Grass root Movement, has called on the Speaker, Imo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Uwajumogu, to quickly join the race to represent the Okigwe Senatorial zone of the state at the red chambers of the National Assembly.
The group made the call during the inauguration of the Okigwe People’s Political Movement OPPM, at the Ihitte-Uboma Council headquarters, Isinweke.
According to the leaders of the group Chief Ugwu Osuagwu,Izuchukwu Ugorji,Ndubisi Achinanya and Ubazuoke, the call became necessary following the dismal performance of past representatives from the zone to fully attract Federal presence to the zone, which has resulted in the relegation of the zone to the political background.
It however, stated that with the sterling performance of the Speaker at the State Assembly, it is confident that he would replicate the same feat at the Federal level if given the opportunity.
The co-ordinator further said: “There is no denying the fact that Okigwe Senatorial zone is in for a big change”. We cannot keep wallowing in political wilderness when other zones seem to be getting it right. It is on this premise that we unanimously call on our son, the Speaker, to please rescue his people from this political quagmire. This he can do for us by throwing his weight behind the race for the representation of the zone at the upper chamber of the National Assembly”, he stated.
The Okigwe Grass root Movement also called on the people of the zone to rally-round the Speaker in his bid to chart a better course for his people which had eluded them in the previous administrative dispensations maintaining that the time to get it right for the zone was now.
