Kuramo Beach Ocean Surge Leaves One Dead, Fifteen Others Missing
At least one person was confirmed dead and fifteen others declared missing when a high wave of water accompanied by ocean surge occurred at the Kuramo Beach in Lagos on Saturday, while prominent hotels and houses in Victoria Island, were said to have been flooded. Ther Police has confirmed recovery of the body of the person that died in the incidence.
Confirming the story, Lagos State Police Spokesmen, Ngozi Braide said the victims involved in the tragedy include 11 traders in a boat, 4 picnickers and a diver.
She said the body of the dead one has been recovered and 17 policemen were drafted to the scene to maintain order.
Already, the Lagos State government has ordered an “immediate evacuation of the state’s waterfront.” Kuramo Beach had been listed among the waterfront to be evacuated “to make way for movement of sand into the area.”
