Nyesom Wike Wins Rivers PDP Guber Ticket
Former Minister of Education, Nyesom Wike, has emerged the governorship candidate of the Peopls Democratic Party (PDP), in Rivers State.
He defeated other contested at the primary election of the party held in Port Harcourt on Monday, winning by a landslide vote.
He scored 1083 votes out of a total of 1108 delegates votes.
Apparently, other major contenders for the PDP governorship ticket of the party stayed away from the primary having concluded that Wike has been anointed by the party.
Since the conduct of the PDP ward congresses in November, the Rivers State PDP has been embroiled in crisis, the highpoint of which was the protest staged by aspirants opposed to the candidature of Nyesom Wike at the national Headquarters of the party in Abuja.
Speaking shortly after being declared winner of the primary, Wike vows to reclaim he mandate stolen by the All Progressives Congress (APC).
“My victory is victory for democracy,” he said. “I will reclaim the stolen mandate of the PDP and recover what is rightly ours in rivers state. The era of rascality and impunity has caused Rivers state dearly. Today, the state enjoys a pariah status.”
