NOMINATION OF CREATIVE AND OUTSTANDING YOUNG INDIVIDUALS FOR SEASON 7 OF THE FUTURE AWARDS OPENS
The seventh edition of the Future Awards which is also referred to as “The Nobel Prize for Young Africans” by the World Bank has been officially launched.
The official launch of the highly anticipated annual event took place on Tuesday 29th May 2012 at the Coral Reef Hall, Ikoyi, Lagos.
Announcing the flag off of the award, the Head of The Future Awards Central Working Committee, Ohimai Atafo said “There is a reason why, when you Google for “Nigeria’s Biggest Youth event”, the Future Awards is the result that turns up. Over the past seven years, we have taken seriously our mandate to inspire leadership and build enterprise and nothing excites us more than the experience of presenting the over 1000 Positive Role Models (especially outside of entertainment) to young Nigerians and Africans. Through the very success of “I am the future”, “I represent Naija” and other campaigns, these awards have led the charge to restore faith in the country amongst young people. Fundamentally altered for good the way young Nigerians are viewed as leaders, innovators and entrepreneurs, become a launch-pad for change projects, businesses, ideas and collaborations across the country, gotten more young people involved in leadership and governance and in pioneering the merging of pop culture with development and advocacy, has made it cool for young people to get involved in their country. We are excited to be on that journey again.”
Highlights at the launch of the awards which is billed to hold on Sunday 26th August, 2012 include the unveiling of the season’s campaign, the 22 categories of the awards scheduled for nomination, the judges, as well as a schedule of activities one of which is the town hall meetings that would be held across the six geo-political zones of the country.
The Future Awards is an annual event geared towards identifying and showcasing the achievements of young individuals in their chosen field of endeavour in any sector of the society so as to inspire a generation of Africans to believe in themselves and the future of their countries.
