Night Fall in Nigeria, GMB to the Rescue… By Dauda Oluwasegun Abiodun
Night Fall came like a dreaded disease
Seeping through the pores of a healthy body
and ravaging it beyond repair
Obviously the words of Oswald Mtshali is a clear exposition of the present day state of terror we live in here in Nigeria, regardless of the fact that it was a satirical poem written during apartheid in south Africa, maybe no other country replicates the message of the poem better in this dispensation other than Nigeria a citadel of terror,home of squalor,sacred abode for corruption and impunity all inherent in the Jonathan (PDP) led administration, saddled with a mission similar to that of Lucifer (Devil) that came to steal to kill and destroy.
Maybe my dictions are really too harsh, but should I tender apology? No! not until I do justice to issues only then I’ll know if my utterances are devoid of paroxysm and if truly I’m biased I’ll tender unreserved apology for the sake of patriotism, nationhood and nation building. But come to think of it everyday we wake in pain and grief hearing and seeing on the pages of our newspapers, mobile gadgets and televisions, news and pictures of terrorist attack in most part of the Northern Region. As much as I’m not blaming the emergence of Bokoharam on the Presidency, it is conspicuous the ineptitude and intellectual backwardness of the Presidency has really contributed immensely to the degradation cum dilapidation in the securIty sector which is the most essential to the sovereignty of the State, aside the fact that it took over a week for the Presidency to accept the abduction of the over 200 chibook girls which in itself is gross irresponsibility.
Who knows maybe expedient action would have savaged the situation, just like the popular cliché ‘a stitch in time saves nine’. His unpatriotic nature and ‘heartlessness’ was well showcased in less than 24hours after visiting the victims of Nyanya bomb blast in April, Mr. President proceeded to Kano for a political rally not on a reflective note but with so much joy that he danced alongside other unscrupulous and retrogressive individuals from the ruling party, regardless of the argument presented by the veritable tools in the hands of this gladiator, in the persons of Ruben Abati, Labaran Maku, Doyin Okupe etc.
Let’s look further beyond his impudence or better still negligence. The weapon being used by this sect are too sophisticated to be manufactured in Nigeria not even in Sub-sahara Africa, so how come it’s being transported through our borders and nobody is getting fired in the immigration/custom, then it’s obvious the institutions of the State are not functioning because the head is as useless and incapacitated as being beheaded(tell Mr. president to read about structural functionalism, system theories etc), for the gullible ones still promulgating the gospel of GEJ, remember Boko Haram started with locally made bombs but the failure of our State institutions to combat this monster under the leadership of this warrior of doom has resulted to gargantuan prowess for the villains and subjugation, fear and panic for the State, same valid argument the western world gave for the withdrawal of their troops, especially the United States.
All thanks to Doyin Okupe’s intellectual masturbation that “GEJ is like Jesus Christ” what an irony! But what else do you expect from a glutton whose intellect is devoid of the nittty-gritty of ideal state hood.
Responsibility inspires a man to live life beyond himself alone, inspires a leader beyond the benefit derivable from his office, ignite passion, synchronizes it with affection for the benefit of mankind. Nigeria looms in stagnancy virtually in every facet, but sardonic enough our President is so weak and vulnerable that he has exalted criminals and condemned the righteous. Contrary to the ethics of humanity we have a genius in corruption with effeminate appearance but monstrous character only under his leadership a vindicated ex-governor was convicted of same offence outside the shores of Nigeria (James Ibori), a pronounced ex-convict (Bode George) was exonerated by the highest ruling Court, Presidential pardon was granted to DSP Alamieyeseigha who looted the treasury of Bayelsa state, probes and panels yielded no result in the case of Farouk Lawan, Allison Madueke, N273 Billion alleged looted pension fund, 27million USD embassy fund fraud, the controversy surrounding the sales of 1.092 billion dollars OPL 245 oil bloc involving Malabu Oil and Shell/Agip, these and many more issues are still pending without any reasonable outcome if not totally forgotten. Even if the youths forget everything the recent immigration job scam that claimed the lives of hundreds of youths in search of green pasture should still be fresh in our memory especially when they’ve not been given justice till today, nobody was fired. This same administration under GEJ leadership celebrated those that are not even worth being applauded, persons like Buruji Kashamu, Asari Dokubo, Government Tompolo, Edwin Clark, just to mention a few. A President without balls in the voice of a confused man called Femi Fani Kayode, another outlandish character like Judas Iscariot with a comic verbiage(A clown).
As for the ethnic bigots intending to vote based on ethnic/tribal sentiment I keep wondering if you’ve benefited at all in this administration, not even a working refinery in your region in last 6years of Oga Jona, please go deep down into history and see who gave you the little you have today. It was Yar’Adua that established the Ministry of Niger/Delta, Buhari built your only refinery, your beloved brother gave Asari, Tompolo, Edwin Clark and colleagues outrageous wealth at the expense of your future, what a loyalty garnished with foolishness!.
My problem with this country is not the ruling elite living in affluence but an average Nigerian youth whose future is being traded for 20 pieces of silver, an average parent whose ignorance will cost the next generation pain and anguish,an average student or graduate whose decision today will determine his employment status tomorrow,that pastor and islamic cleric whose political thought is sentimentally driven, propagating dashed hope that will wreck more havoc on his/her congregation in the nearest future all because of brown envelope, the press ensnaring people’s cognition with propaganda all in the name of party affiliation. With utmost sincerity we the masses are the real casualties, just like the words of JP Clark”The casualties are not only those who are dead;
They are well out of it.
The casualties are not only those who are wounded,
Thought they await burial by instalment
The casualties are not only those who have lost
Person or property, hard as it is
To grape for a touch that some
May not know is not there
The casualties are not those led away by night;
The cell is a cruel place, sometimes a heaven,
No where as absolute as the grave
The casualties are not those who started
A fire and now cannot put to out. Thousands
Are burning that had no say in the matter.
The casualties are not only those who are escaping
The shattered shell become prisoners in
A fortress of falling walls.”
The fact that we live in fear and panic everyday is an indication that we are the real casualty,but you have an alternative to choose life or death,hope or wreck, GMB or GEJ….I’m not preaching any political party but credence and good personality, not politics but integrity….do I owe anybody apology? I guess No! Because it’s glaring that even if this piece is a little bit shy of sagacity it is not in anyway bereaved of fact..God bless Nigeria!
Vote wisely, Vote Change… Vote General Muhammadu Buhari the very change we seek!
