Nigerians Are Winning As Jonathan Agrees to Withdraw Introduction of 5000 Naira Notes
The planned introduction of the 5000 naira note by the Central Bank of Nigeria which will become the highest naira denomination might have hit the rock as indications emerged Wednesday that President Goodluck Jonathan has agreed to reverse the policy.
The policy has generated outcry from the Nigerian public against the introduction, thus necessitating the resolution of both arm of the National Assembly demanding that the plan be suspended.
Mr. Jonathan met with the leadership of the two arms hours after the National Assembly sessions on Tuesday and assured that any “approval given in the regards can be reversed since it is the wish of the people,” lawmakers informed about the decision said Wednesday afternoon.
