Nigerian Troops Record Another Victory Against Boko Haram in Konduga, Kill Many Insurgents
For the second time in two weeks, the Nigerian military has dealt a heavy blow to members of the Boko Haram insurgents group in Konduga, Borno state.
The sect members who stormed Konduga early Tuesday morning in an apparent revenge to the earlier damage done to it met there waterloo in the town as over 100 of them were killed.
The first attempt by the insurgents to overrun the town on September 12, suffered similar fate as the insurgents were dealt a heavy blow.
A defence source said the fierce fighting between the insurgents and the troops lasted for over 12 hours until the Boko Haram fighters were overpowered.
The source added that troops are combing the vicinity of the battle scene in a cordon and search operation to determine the exact casualty figures suffered by the terrorists in the encounter,” a defence source declared.
The Defence Headquarters in a statement Wednesday afternoon confirmed the fierce fighting and the success recorded by the troops.
The statement added that 3 Hilux vehicles, 1 Amoured Personnel Carried and a cache of arms and ammunition were confirmed captured by the troops.
