Nigerian Army Set To Unveil First Nigerian Made APC
The Nigerian Army has revealed that it would unveil its first locally made Armoured Personnel Carrier, APC at the 2012 Nigerian Army Day Celebration (NADCEL) in Kaduna.
The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Azubuike Ihejirika, announced this at a news conference on Friday as part of activities lined up for the NADCEL celebration. .
Ihejirika, represented by the Chief of Military Civil Relations, Major Gen. Bitrus Kwaji, said the local production of APC had saved the nation at least 30% of the cost of the foreign version.
The COAS said the unveiling of the APC was part of the ongoing reform in the military and in line with the transformation agenda of the Jonathan administration.
On choosing Kaduna to celebrate the event, Ihejirika said the army wanted to prove to the public that Kaduna State was safe in spite of its recent security challenges.
The theme of the celebration is “Partnering the Civil Society Towards Improved Security” and expected to hold June 29th- July 6th.
