Nigeria President Or King Of The North? By Olufemi Fani-Kayode- A rejoinder By: AbdulRahman Agboola
Change of name or re-christening out of personal volition occurs strangely in men of recalcitrance traits or negative antecedents through recantation to gain sympathy and consideration as a repentant. Often times, people with sincere intentions renounce their identities, acquires new image and parted path permanently with their past, but diversionary agents like Femi Fani-Kayode with obsessive compulsive disorder, acts in vain to rebuild a dented image in a sane clime with perfect understanding of the partial imperfections in the teachings of history.
When Femi Fani- Kayode in the spirit of contrition changed his identity from the notorious Femi Fani-Kayode to Olufemi Olu-Kayode months ago after he was discharged and acquitted of his money laundry trial, many of us thought his action was necessitated by personal decision to eschew divisionary actions of ethnic jingoism and religious bigotry to toll the path of patriotism, but as a recidivist, his publication with the above topic shows his penchant for frivolity.
It is really messy for a Former Member of Federal Cabinet who served in different capacities at the Presidency to turnout those junks in his publication under the guise of advocacy for racial equity or balance of power between North and South. Ordinarily, his wicked machinations is a mere celebration of folly in a complex society like Nigeria, but his inferences on statements credited to personalities of northern extractions calls for an appraisal of the impact of those allusions on the psyche of some young people with shoddy sense of history that aligns with his insupportable hoarse hook, line and sinker.
For the avoidance of doubt, the identity “Fani “ he inherited from his father Chief Victor Babaremilekun Fani-Kayode (Fani Power) which he dubiously gave up in his new identity must always come to fore when analyzing personalities that gave the Northern Leaders the edge of longer rule over the South since the Independence of Nigeria. His father was a slave to Northern leaders from 1959 till his inglorious death in 1995. He betrayed his benefactor Chief Obafemi Awolowo to pitch tent with Alh Tafawa Balewa in 1959, Sir Ahmadu Bello in 1963, Sheu Shagari in 1979 and 1983 and Alh Bashir Tofa in 1993 against Yoruba interest.
The above is a response to his reference of Herodutus that a man who does not know anything about the events that took place before he or she was born will remain a child forever. All the personalities he alleged of Anti-South Statements to place the North at the lead were allies of his father Chief Babaremi Fani- Kayode. It was this same Femi Fani-Kayode’s family that supported Northern Candidates against Chief Awolowo and Chief MKO Abiola in 1963, 1979, 1983 and 1989 Presidential Elections which led to the strong grip of the North on the leadership of Nigeria, the history he referred us to clearly recorded this against his family which requires an apology from him on behalf of his family to the Yoruba race for whatever misdemeanors or crimes he levied against the Northern Leaders.
Contrary to his poor knowledge of materialist conception and skewed account of era of barbarism which he vainly presented to tarnish this era of civilization, it becomes inescapable to educate Olufemi Olu Kayode and his ardent followers that Engels in the Light of the Researches of Lewis H. Morgan authoritatively explained materialistic conception as a determining factor in history in the last resort as the production and reproduction of immediate life and this itself is of two fold character.
On the one hand, the production of the means of subsistence of food, clothing, shelter and the tools requisite therefore; on the other hand, the production of human beings themselves , the propagation of the species. The social institutions under which men of a definite historical epoch and of a definitely Country live are conditioned by both kinds of productions: by the stage of the development of labour on the one hand and of the family on the other hand. This goes to say the less the development of labour, the more limited its volume of production and the wealth of a society, the more preponderatingly does the social order appears to be dominated by ties of sex.
However, within this structures of society based on ties of sex, the productivity of labour develops more and more, private property and exchange, differences in wealth, the possibility of utilizing the labour power of others and thereby the basis of class antagonisms, new social elements which strive in the course of generations to adapt the old structure of society to the new conditions until the incompatibility of the two leads to a complete revolution.
The old society based on sex groups burst asunder in the collision of the newly developed social classes; in its place a new society appears, constituted in a state, the lower units of which are no longer sex groups but territorial groups, a society in which the family system is entirely dominated by the property system in which the class antagonism and class struggles which make up the content of all hitherto written history now freely develop.
In Northern Nigeria, the old society remains operational with polygamy and huge reproduction rate as population strength while the Southern Nigeria has transits from the old society to family system of lower reproduction rate and weak territorial groups with lower population which is responsible for the dominance of the North over South that tends to set us at collision, if equilibrium is not applied. Considering the imbalance in the marriage of the North and South and the attendant effect of territorial frauds and migrations on the affected citizens, unity of purpose is non-negotiable among all Nigerians; hence all actions geared towards tribal chauvinism must stop in our polity in the spirit of one Nigeria.
It is common knowledge that numerous people in South East are not hiding their obsessions for Biafra Republic with five Igbo dominated States of the Federation even with vast population of people of Northern extractions residing in the region and huge investment of Igbo traders in the Northern Region, what an irony. The South South at this era seems to have aligned properly with the Nigeria Project in spite of the loss of their kinsman at the last Presidential Election and disadvantage in the political permutations yet they are well coordinated for the future.
My real grouse with Femi Fani-Kayode and my Yoruba brothers that are involved in this hate campaign against the North is their insensitivity to the plight of Yoruba Nation. The Yoruba indigenes in both Kwara and Kogi States prefers their recognitions as Northerners due to the territorial fraud that carved them away from the South West, while most of the numerous Yoruba Migrants to other Northern States have indigenized themselves against all odds. The most populated Yoruba State (Lagos State) is been challenged by the Igbo migrants as a no man’s land as they acquired Houses and dominated Lagos Main Land in particular, while the Hausas are claiming dominance and control over Agege, Mile 12 and other Areas of Lagos State. Other South West States play host to Fulani Settlers with full rights on allocated lands as settlements for farming, growing businesses and strong political participations in our environs.
As a United Country, the above is not a misnomer as our enabling laws permits every citizen to freedom of movement and association, but as Femi Fani-Kayode presented to the whole world that the Northern Leaders are obsessed with the passion for the total domination of the Nigeria State by the North, the above analysis is to expose his naivety to the fact that the North has long dominated the South especially the West in particular even though the Yorubas have overwhelming population in the North, the irony is that most of the Yorubas in the North have traded their identities for proper recognitions as Northerners while the Northerners in the West retained their identities, hence Femi Fani-Kayode and his like should be guided and stop endangering the lives of Yorubas with their ceaseless attacks against the North.
Some of us with interest in Yoruba history are really worried about the clear deviation of the younger folks from intellectualism and productive reasoning for the betterment of the society which the Yorubas are respected for globally, the preponderance of illicit activities and unemployment among our people should be our ultimate preoccupation in the interest of Yoruba race.
Teacher, don’t teach me nonsense!!! It is on gazette that in the struggle of the Mogaji Ares’ struggle in Ilorin to ensure a rotation of the ruler-ship of the town between Yoruba and Fulani in Ilorin when the Alaafin Oyo was invited by the Court to testify to the claim of the Mogaji Ares that Afonja who was their father was in the Class of a Town Head in his lifetime to win their case, Alaafin Oyo disproved their claim with unmerited pronunciations that fetched the Fulani ruling house in Ilorin the absolute right to produce ruler-ship for Ilorin while the Mogaji Ares were granted the relief to be included among the King Makers. Will these historical charlatans comes forth to explain the damages caused to many towns by the Yoruba sayings that a Kings Child does not fight like Slaves which led to hiring of mercenaries as fighters during wars in those days, which later led to leadership struggle between our forefathers and those hired mercenaries in many localities that eventually led to infiltrations.
We need to face the realities of the moment, count our blessings with our present positions in government at the Federal Level and reposition our region for greatness. Before the discovery of Oil in Nigeria, the South West once provided economic basement for this Country with our farm products like Cocoa, Kolanuts and Palm Oil to mention few, how did we got retarded to a level where our people are now living in abject poverty, yet we have failed to proffer homegrown solutions to our problems without dependence on the Federal Government, but those bastards that traded away the beautiful South West Regional Integration Project few years ago and the Children of those bastards that betrayed Awolowo for pecuniary gains and put the South West Region in this poor state of comatose and ethical malaise dare attempt to brainwash the unsuspecting Southerners with their hate and calumny campaign against a Federal Government we should collectively reposition for greatness in the overall benefits of all Nigerians.
Before the actions of these agents of divisions becomes very obstreperous, it is imperative for all reasonable Nigerians to rise up and protect the unity of this Country by cushioning the effects of their hate campaigns with patriotism campaign and modestly ensure that Mr President equally consider the complexity of the Nigeria State in decision makings.
