NIgeria Needs A “Thinking Leader”, Not A “Kindergaten Leader” Like Jonathan – Bisi Akande
Interim National Chairman of the newly registered All Progressive Congress, APC, Chief Adebisi Akande, has said that in view of the level decay in the polity, only a “thinking leadership” and not a kindergarten leader like Jonathan will return the country to the path of progress.
Akande who spoke on sundry national issues yesterday in his country home in Ila-Orangun, Osun State, faulted the leadership style of President Goodluck Jonathan, describing him as a “kindergarten leader”
“He (President Jonathan) treats national issues with levity. All he is concerned about is his third term. He has reduced Nigeria to kindergarten governance. This is dangerous and may destroy the nation”, Akande, said
Speaking further on Jonathan’s leadership quality, Akande declared: “I have many reasons not to admire Jonathan. I have had meetings with him since 2011. I have had a long conversation with him once and, on all these occasions, I did not find him to be a serious-minded leader. I can say boldly that Nigeria’s problem today is Jonathan; it would have been easier if Nigeria had a thinking leadership in Jonathan.
“I have written him (President Jonathan) twice; he never had the courtesy to acknowledge any of them, and I discussed serious business in the letters what to do to move Nigeria forward. That shows me that he treats national issues with levity.”
On his alleged invitation to President Jonathan to join the APC because of his leadership qualities, Akande said that he only said that the door of APC was open to whosoever might wish to join it, including President Jonathan if he was fed up with the crisis in his party, but “Jonathan does not possess what it takes to lead Nigeria successfully”.
He also denied denied media reports that his party was not keen about the 2015 presidential election, saying he was misquoted.
“I was misquoted by the media on APC’s preparations for 2015: what I actually said was that our pre-occupation as an interim leadership of the party was to mobilise and register members, conduct congresses and convention to establish a good structure for the new party, and that the priority for now is the Anambra State governorship election and possibly Delta State senatorial poll,” Akande stated.
