Nigeria as a Man, By Olu Wole Onemola
If we were to picture our independence through the lens of a man, we would see a 54 year old man who has not yet fully lived up to his potential. We would see a man who is torn between following the same road he has always taken, or changing the course that he is used to and charting a new path.
There exists the fear of the unknown for such a man, because with everyday that passes – he becomes a day older than yesterday, and his problems still linger on.
This man is wealthy, but he is always broke. This man is intelligent, but his output is always shoddy. This man is powerful, but he lets the people around him percieve him in another light. This man has in him the ability to change himself, but he chooses to wallow in his vices, and enjoy the meagre benefits of a temporary high.
If only such a man could see the future that awaits him if he really tries, he would understand the power that lies ahead of him. The future is his to grasp. He is the change that he wishes to see. No one else can make it happen for him…
I personally think that there is still ample hope for such a man, and for his sake, I hope that you all do too.
Happy Independence Day!
