Newly Appointed Minister Of Defence, Aliyu Gusau Resigns
Barely few days after he assumed office as the Nigeria’s Minister of defence, General Aliyu Gusau has resigned, Sahara Reporters is reporting.
Gusau’s resignation was borne out of the refusal of the top echelon of the Nigeria military to have a joint meeting with the minister and his minister of state, Musikilu Obanikoro, the online news platform said.
Unconfirmed report said the refusal of the military chiefs to meet with the Gusau and his deputy was triggered by the desire to have all the top military chiefs report to him (Aliyu Gusau) as the minister in charge of defence.
Although the practice worldwide is that top military chiefs report directly to the president, Gusau in his quest to have a full control of the nations’s security wanted the military chiefs to report directly to him.
