New Rivers CP, Tunde Ogunsaki Speaks on His Mission in Rivers
The new Commissioner of Police in Rivers state, Tunde Ogunsakin in Rivers state, has given indication of a new lease of life for the people of Rivers State as he has promised to discharge his duty responsibly.
Described as a tough cop, until his appointment last week as CP Rivers Police Command, Ogunsai was head of the Special Fraud Unit (SFU) at the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), in Lagos.
He takes over this week from the controversial CP Joseph Mbu, who left no one in doubt as to his battle with Governor Amaechi with the help of powers from above.
His tenure as CP in the oil-rich state left the image of the police badly dented following the ignominious role played by the outgone police commissioner, Mr Joseph Mbu, in the political crisis currently rocking the state.
Assuring that peace will return to Rivers State, he said: “I’m going to do my professional work and create an environment for the peaceful conduct of election.”
He said that professionalism will be the watchword. He vowed to be fair to all.
If he lives up to his pledge, Rivers State may return to the path of harmonious relationship between the police leadership in the state and the state government.
Ogunsakin was appointed CP SUF in 2009, before that, he was the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Info-tech, at the Force Headquarters.
He also served as Director of Operations of EFCC from June 2008 to May 2009. He is a former Director of Operations at the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).
He enlisted into the Nigeria Police Force as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) in 1982.
It would be recall that Civil societies, National Assembly and other categories of Nigerians called for Mbu to be redeployed on account of his disregard for the person and office of the state governor, Rotimi Amaechi.
