NDLEA Nab Eight Traders for Trafficking Drug at Murtala Muhammed International Airport

Officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested Eight young igbo traders at the Murtala Mohammed international airport in Lagos for concealing 10.635kg of methamphetamine inside native clothes popularly called ‘Aso-Oke’ to traffic overseas.
One of the suspects, Benson Okechukwu was arrested with a Zambian national passport with the name, Tembo Gideon while on his way to Thailand with a concealed 2.522kg of methamphetamine inside the local fabric.

The breakdown of drugs recovered from the suspects includes 4.460kg of methamphetamine, 4.030kg of heroin and 2.145kg of cocaine, while one of the suspects was caught trying to smuggle in 3.455kg of heroin from India.

NDLEA Commander at the Lagos Airport, Mr Hamza Umar gave the names of the suspects as Onyekwere Wisdom Chinedu,( 26); Obinna Christian Chigbo, (37); Muogbo Uchechukwu Sixtius, (25); Tembo Gideon aka Benson Okechukwu, (25); Orabusinze Chukwuka Joseph, (28); Ogbonnaya Kalu Robert, (54); Obiorah Celestine Nonso, (31) and Udeh Lazarus Makwe, (44). He assured that the suspects will soon be charged to court.

In his sallah message, NDLEA Chairman, Ahmadu Giade urged members of the public to shun drug trafficking and criminal acts capable of truncating their God ordained destinies. “It is sad that these suspected drug traffickers are behind bars when they ought to be with their families this festive season. Drug trafficking and other criminal acts will only lead to misery, shame and unfulfilled dreams”, he added.
