PRESS RELEASE ON THE PRESIDENTIAL PARDON GRANTED VIP NIGERIANS
The attention of the National Youth Alliance has been drawn to the Presidential Pardon granted some Nigerians that have been termed “VIP Nigerians”
The National Youth Alliance would like to state in clear terms that the Presidential pardon granted former Bayelsa Governor, Diepreye Alamieyeseigha ,Mr Shettima Bulama and a former army Major, Bello Magaji, convicted and sentenced to five years jail term for sodomy is but a gross abuse of Presidential Powers and morally inimical to the social development of Nigerians: a vast number of whom are youths.
We, The National Youth Alliance (an coalition of Youth groups in Nigeria), condemn this lack of moral conscience as exhibited by the President. The President has by this moral abuse of his Presidential Powers of pardon set a calamitous precedent for the youths who are keenly involved in nation building and present day politics; and for the future of Nigeria and Nigerians who might not see anything wrong in stealing and pillaging our commonwealth: because with the stolen funds, one can buy justice from the already corruption ridden judiciary, negotiate a plea bargain with our now toothless anti-graft agencies or even get a Presidential pardon if you are willing to donate a little stolen money to the “President’s Presidential library” or help build and equip “Churches ‘’ in the Presidents hometown.
The President has by this singular act brought shame to the collective image of Nigeria/Nigerians in the comity of Democratic Nations and made a mockery of the fight against corruption. The President has ridiculed the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria by granting pardon to convicted pedophiles, hard core ‘economic assassins’ and robbers of the collective wealth of Nigerians. What is worse is that the President inserted the names of a few Eminent Nigerians who had been persecuted during the evil years of military rule. This last stroke of evil masterpiece reeks of mischief and can be classified as a deft display by an “Evil Genius”.
We would on this very matter ask the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to immediately save Nigerian further insults and degradation by rescinding and annulling this devilish decision since the majority of Nigerians see the decision as an affront to the Fight against Corruption (If any) and a lack of a moral code as displayed by the commander in chief.
The youths of this country will not sit down and watch their future merchandized on the altar of ‘god fatherism’, political benefactors and egocentric manipulations.
National Youth Alliance
United we conquer evil.
Paul Utho
National Vice President
