NANS President, Consultant Denies Arrest, Says Report Figment of Imagination
The Media Consultant to Yinka Gbadebo, President, National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Mr. Maxwell Adeyemi Adeleye has denied the media report which says that he was arrested alongside Gbadebo on Wednesday at the Abuja office of the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) and still being detained up till this moment. He described the report as the handwork of some people that are out to tarnish his image for unknown reason(s). He said contrary to what was reported, he was in Kaduna State when the news was reported by some people on Facebook and he debunked it with immediate effect.
The news of his arrest alongside Gbadebo was captioned as BREAKING by some online news medium 28 hours after he has urged the public via his facebook timeline to disregard it.
Below is the full text of the second counter-statement he released via his Facebook status this morning;
Re: Maxwell Adeyemi Adeleye, Yinka Gbadebo, others arrested
My attention has been brought to a totally fallacious, cruel, barbaric, shameful, disgustful, and an irresponsible and unethical report aired and heralded by some disgruntled elements with the aide of some yellow Journalists and idiotic online news medium that i was arrested on wednesday 20th November alongside with one of my clients, Mr. Yinka Gbadebo, the President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), at the office of the Nigerian Immigration office (NIS) Abuja and still being detained up till this moment.
For the sake of clarity and the already misinformed and wheedled unsuspecting general public, let me state unequivocally that neither me nor Gbadebo was arrested at the Abuja Immigration office.The report was a product of brown envelope! I was in Kaduna, Kaduna State capital on wednesday for a research work (for my publication that will soon be out) when the unintelligently coined news was posted on the social media that I was inside immigration cell in Abuja. The Rector of Kaduna Polytechnic, Dr. Ibrahim Bello was my host and as i write, I am still in Kaduna State.
The news was first posted on social media on Wednesday and I debunked it with immediate effect via my Facebook timeline. I was however surprised that some online news medium such as Osun Defender, Abusidiqu.com, Elombah.com etc could still publish the story 28hours after I’ve issued a rebuttal and tagged it as BREAKING. They also said I was incommunicado yesterday! What a white lie! I updated my Facebook status 9 times yesterday and my one and only MTN mobile Number was available throughout and still available. I was also online throughout yesterday discussing issues with friends. I urge you all to check my twitter handle @adefolamax, and facebook timeline as I ‘ve uploaded the photographs I took with Dr. Bello and my team there.
Nevertheless, I ‘ve spoken with Mr. Abubakar Sidiq Usman, the publisher of abusidiqu.com and I made him to realize that he goofed. However, the humble Abubakar has apologized. He has also deleted the news from his website.
And for record purpose, below is the apology message abusidiqu.com sent to me yesterday 21st November at exactly 10:42pm:
“It’s removed. Sorry for the embarrassment. I will ask the guy the source of the story.”
Lastly, let me state here that I know those that carried out the yeoman job. They ‘re agents of some politicians from South West Nigeria that are at loggerhead with Yinka Gbadebo. Anyway, as posited by a boss yesterday, those that propagated the story have miscalculated. They thought they ‘re embarrassing me, meanwhile, they ‘re promoting me. I say a big thank you to them for the unpaid advertisement.
Thank you all for your concern.
