NANS Oyo State Chapter Condemns Outrageous Ffee Hike in OAU
Every generation out of its relative obscurity must discover its mission either fulfills or betrays it- Frantz Fannon. We can no longer sit on the fence that is why it is very pertinent at this juncture to fulfill our mission now and solidarise with our brothers, comrades and colleagues at the level of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State over the mundane policy introduced by their management.
In a statement issued to the PRESS on Wednesday by the Public Relations Officer of the association, Comrade Ismael Taiwo, the
association condemns the sudden increment of the fee. It is barbaric, Boko haramic and a calculated attempt to deprive the less-privileged an access to tertiary education said by the Spokesman of the association.
It is a known fact that Great Ife has been a last hope for the less-privileged because it is the cheapest school in the South-West
region. It is quite pathetic and ludicrous that those who have enjoyed free and qualitative education during the era of Late Obafemi Awolowo in this reputable citadel of learning are now inflicting pains on our colleagues.
The association therefore vows to support the struggle if need be as injury to one is an injury to all. Great Ife students are known as the frontier of struggle that is why we must not let our past heroes who did all what they could do to sustain bearable and qualitative education die in vain. The association also uses this medium to call on ASUU leaders who enjoyed staunch support of Nigerian students during the previous strike action embarked on by their union to stand now and reject the astronomical increment of the fee if truly they love Nigerian students as claimed during the strike action. This is a clarion call to all student activists, labour unions and other human rights’ fighters to vehemently reject the increment because it is OAU students today, nobody knows whose turn tomorrow.
At this juncture, we therefore implore all Great Ife students to rally round their leaders in a bid to ensure that the status quo is
maintained. To our colleagues in the spirit of comradeship at OAU, remember that if you fight you might win but if you don’t fight now you have lost completely. Let’s save the future of incoming generation by saying complete NO to the astronomical increment of fees in our tertiary institutions.
Dare to struggle, dare to win.
Viva Aluta!! Amandla Awethu!!!
Comr. Ismael Taiwo
Public Relations Officer
