Multiple Explosion Rocks Damaturu, As Gunmen Kills 9 JTF Soldiers.
Multiple explosions and gunshots were today heard in capital city of Yobe state, Damaturu.
In one of the several attacks reported Ajiyari, Shagari Low Cost and Abasha area of the town, members of the Joint Task Force who on patrol were ambushed and a couple of them injured.
According to a police source, nine soldiers and one mobile police officer is feared dead in the afternoon attack on the security patrol team.
Confirming the incidence, Public Relations Officer of the Yobe state Police Command, Toyin Gbadegeshin said “the gunmen laid ambush on a security patrol team using explosive devices around Shagari low cost housing area”.
At the other locations where explosions and gunshots were heard, thick smokes filled the sky as people scampered for safety resulting to chaos and accidents.
A resident at Shagari low-cost said that he saw gunmen firing sporadically as he was rushing to enter his house. “About two explosions were followed by gunshots from the location of the governor’s junior brother.”
When contacted to give details of the explosions, the Yobe state Commissioner of Police, Patrick Egbuniwe confirmed the incidence, but could not give further details.
“Yes, there were explosions and gunshots in the town, our men are going up and down to know if there are casualties, therefore is too early to say anything now, you can call me back later.” He said.
