Missing Islamic Cleric, Wife Found In SSS Cell In Ogun
An islamic cleric, Abdul Ganiy Jumah, and his pregnant wife, Muinat, who were abducted by some gunmen on July 5, had been found in the custody of State Security Service in Abeokuta.
The couple lived at 27, Fagbemi Street, Ijoko, in Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of the state until that fateful night when they were abducted and taken to an unknown destination around 3am. Family members and friends of the Jumahs had been worried over their whereabouts until Wednesday when they were traced to the SSS cell.
A member of the Jumah’s family, who spoke to journalists on condition of anonymity, said a call was received by the principal witness, Lukman Oketokun, on Tuesday to come to Abeokuta Headquarters of the State Security Service, asking him to see the Deputy Director, Operations at 10am on Wednesday. He said, “The source further said the witness met with the deputy director of SSS, who released the wife of the Islamic cleric. ”
Muinat who spoke with journalists on the telephone after she was released, said they were yet to be told their offence. The woman said she was released based on her expected delivery date. She added, “They only gave me a letter from a gynaecologist, who advised me to proceed to the hospital for delivery.” She later narrated that her experience in detention was harrowing, despite being pregnant.
The head of legal team for the couple, Mr. Musodiq Sanni, said his clients would seek legal redress against the Directorate of State Service over alleged the violation of human rights of the couple. He said, “We have to thank the Police at Zone 2 for their investigation. Now that we have established who abducted our clients, we are going to take action against the SSS for violation of human rights.”
