Argentine superstar Lionel Messi has won the 2015 FIFA World Player of the Year after he was announced as the award recipient at the Ballon D’Or ceremony in Zurich.
Messi saw off Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo and Barcelona team-mate Neymar to win the award for the 5th time having won in 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012 respectively.
The 28-year-old forward received 41.33% of the votes ahead of Ronaldo(27.76%) and Neymar(7.86%).
Also, United States midfielder Carli Lloyd, who scored a hat-trick in the World Cup final, won the women’s award. England coach Mark Sampson was beaten to the women’s football coach of the year award by USA boss Jill Ellis.
