May 29 Inauguration Events: FG Yet To Extend Invitation To Key APC Members
With just five days left to the inauguration of a new government on May 29, where President Goodluck Jonathan is expected to handover the instruments of government to President-elect Muhammadu Buhari, Abusidiqu has being reliably informed that the Federal Government is yet to extend invitation to most of the personalities expected to grace the inauguration events.
The inauguration events which is been handled by the office of the Secretary to Government of the Federation, began on Friday with special Jummat service, which was followed by Church service on Sunday.
But aside the two religious events which were congregational and opened to the public, the other events comprising of the swearing-in ceremony, inauguration dinner, a lunch and a gala night are strictly by invitation.
However, many of those expected to grace the events are yet to formally receive invitation from the SGF office, our source said.
According to the source, the SGF office is particularly hoarding the invitation and denying most APC members the chance to be a part of the events.
“As I speak to you, members of the APC Presidential Campaign Council as well as the members of the president-elect’s transition committee are yet to receive invitations for the events,” the source said.
Another source said even members of the diplomatic corp have not been officially invited to the events. We are however unable to confirm.
But when contacted, a source from the office of the SGF said the the FG has nothing to do with invitation of key APC members, as all invitations have been handed over to the former governor of Bayelsa State, Timippre Sylva, who is the co-chairman of the inauguration committee.
The source said invitations expected from the side of the outgoing government has been distributed by the Secretary to the Federal Government, Anyim Pius Anyim, who is the chairman of the inauguration, while those expected from the APC has been handed over to Sylva for onward distribution to APC officials.
He also denied claims that members of the diplomatic community are yet to be handed over their invitations.
“All those the FG wishes to attend the events have been handed over their invitations. If APC officials are yet to get invitations for the inauguration events, they should hold the co-chairman, Sylva responsible because we have given him over 500 cards to distribute to his party members,” he said.
