Manifestation of Progress on the Progressive Platform via APC New Generation Initiative By Abdulrahman Agboola
In recognition of the strong need to present a formidable candidate with sound credentials to convince the masses to support the actualization of the victory of APC at the 2015 Presidential Election in order to guarantee an effective system change against the backdrop of poor governance that has plagued the nation with the abysmal failure of PDP led Federal Government since 1999, the veteran Youth Leaders dedicated to the triumph of APC over PDP has surfaced under the platform of APC New Generation Initiative to advance the image of the party and close the ranks of APC National Leaders to reason on the call for unity of purpose among the party stalwarts.
In the wake of the campaign of calumny, blackmails and intense bashing of General Buhari and Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu with astute records to trash the opposition at the polls, the PDP agents with ulterior motives has not relented in their efforts to discredit these forthright personalities before the general public by painting them as desperadoes, it becomes imperative for the party to consult widely and present alternative candidates with prudent records in governance among the emerging leaders in the party.
To achieve this great feat, APC New Generation Initiative as a group committed to the task of ensuring the effectiveness of generational change in the progressive party with membership in all the States of the Federation under the coordination of State Coordinators and proper supervision of the National Executives is resolute on the emergence of a New Generation Leader as the flag bearer of APC at the Presidential Election through fidelity among the emerging leaders and eminent party leaders, towards the overall victory of APC in 2015 Presidential Election. The Initiative equally serves as strong platform towards an efficient mobilization of young people at all levels to support the good cause, advance the ideals and promote the overall interest of APC in the bid to rescue the nation from the poor governance of PDP led Federal Government.
In pursuance of the goals of the group, town hall meetings were designed to hold in the Six Geo Political Zones of the Federation to enhance sound mobilization of young people and equally spread the message of the group to the APC Leaders and the general public. To this end, the town hall meeting for the South East Zone was successfully held at the Candlewood Hotel Owerri where over 500 young people from the five States in South Eastern Nigeria participated.
It is worthy to acknowledge that prior to the event, the leadership of APC New Generation Initiative led by the National Coordinator Mallam Balarabe Rufai visited the Deputy Governor of Imo State His Excellency Prince Eze Madumere (MFR) on a familiarization visit to his office, discussed the lofty objectives of the group towards the actualization of the hope of APC to take over power at the Federal Level and sustain the gains of APC at State Levels. The Deputy Governor applauded the initiative, expressed his confidence in young people and assured the group of the readiness of Imo State Governor to sustain the reign of APC in the South East.
In the same vein, the group visited the Imo State Chapter of APC led by the Party Chairman Dr Hilary Ekeh to intimate the State Chapter on the need for the emergence of a New Generation Leader as the Party’s Presidential flag bearer. The meeting was very productive which led to the presence of the APC Chairman and Youth Leaders at the town hall meeting on 2nd August 2014 where the Chairman Dr Hilary Ekeh delivered a key note address in support of the initiative.
In the opening remarks of the National Coordinator of APC New Generation Initiative Mallam Balarabe Rufai at the town hall meeting, he expressed the confidence of the group in the emergence of a President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria under the platform of APC at the forthcoming Presidential Election in 2015 if the party leaders harmonize all interest on the presidential ticket, especially the consideration of an emerging leader as a Presidential flag bearer. He commend the tenacity and forthrightness of eminent veteran leaders of the party like former Head of State General Muhammad Buhari, His Excellency Former Governor of Lagos State Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, His Excellency former Vice President Alh Atiku Abubakar and other party Elders for their immense contributions to nation-building and the emergence of virile opposition at the federal level.
The National Coordinator expressed hope in the veteran leaders to yield to the yearnings of the young people of Nigeria appealing for generational shift in the affairs of the nation. He asserted that APC is blessed with Young Turks as new generation leaders, such as Mallam Nasir el Rufai, Senator Bukola Saraki, and Chief Sam Nda-Isiah, Governors (Rabiu Kwankwaso, Rochas Okorocha, Rotimi Amaechi, Babatunde Raji Fashola and Adam Oshiomole) among others who can wrestle and defeat President Jonathan of PDP at the General Elections in 2015.
The meeting extensively discussed proposal for emergence of any of the emerging leaders as Presidential flag bearer of APC which was greeted with consent and endorsement by the participants, hoping the veteran leaders will reason in same direction but urged the leadership of APC New Generation Initiative to intensify efforts to gain understanding of the veteran leaders to consider the proposal in the best and overall interest of APC.
The New Generation Initiative conferred the title of CHANGE AMBASSADOR on Six distinguished Young Persons from South East in recognition of their dexterity and commitment to the advancement of the noble cause of efficient governance ion Nigeria through the emergence of APC at the Centre of Government (Presidency) in 2015 election. These ambassadors were charged with the responsibility of promoting the image of APC and mobilise support for the emergence of a new generational leader as the Presidential flag bearer of APC. The Change Ambassadors are: Hon Chief Ken Agbakwuru (Imo State), Comrade Azu Chiakaike (Abia State), Hon Emma I. Emma (Anambra State), Mr Amarachukwu Obasi (Ebonyi State), Comrade Tony Obi (Enugu State), Anyanwu C. Anyanwu (Imo State).
The participants pledged their loyalty to the actualization of the aspirations of APC and appealed to the leadership of the New Generation Initiative not to relent in their efforts to mobilise young people towards success of APC. The town hall meeting was concluded with optimism among participants that the APC New Generation Initiative would serve as an impetus towards the convincing the veteran leaders in APC to consider the emergence of a new generation leader as the Presidential flag bearer.
