My Letter to The All Progressives Congress’ National Chairman – Sam Nda-Isaiah
National Chief Chairman
All Progressives Congress (APC)
A CALL TO ACTION
I wish to congratulate the Chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, and all members of the first elected National Executive Committee (NEC) of our great party, the All Progressives Congress. Each member of this NEC has a history of hard work, service delivery and a deep commitment to progressive ideals.
In the light of the callous misrule of the Peoples Democratic Party over the last 15 years and the deep desire for change across the country, our party could not have made a better choice. I cannot be prouder of being a member of the party at any other time.
May I respectfully remark, however, Mr. Chairman, that this choice is at once a challenge and an opportunity. It is a challenge because those who voted for the NEC under your leadership and millions of our party members want change; they hope that you and your team can bring this about. It is an opportunity because Nigerians, across party lines, are fed up with an incompetent and clueless government; they hope our party will be the alternative platform. We can offer and, more important, put into action, forward-thinking policies that are the pillars of a truly effective government under your leadership. The APC can turn the current tide of hoplessness into hope and opportunity. We can take our country back from the grip of joblessness, corruption and mindless violence. The party, under your leadership, can seize the moment and fulfil the dreams and aspirations of all those who have laboured to bring it this far and the millions more who have invested their hope in its future.
But, to do this, the NEC must be on its guard; it must, like Caesar’s wife, be above board. It must shun favouritism, cronyism, corruption and the temptation to feel accountable to any special interests-demons that have brought the ruling party to its current low. The NEC must not only be transparent and fair to all parties in its dealings, it must be seen to be transparent and fair to all, upholding its founding principles and the constitution at all times. It must not only claim to be different; it must earn its stripes by the independence, boldness and integrity of its actions.
Your record of service along with the records of other distinguished members of the NEC inspires hope in me and, I am sure, in millions of others across party lines. The road may be rough and the path thorny, but with diligent planning, courage and fortitude, you will prevail in the end. I trust you will not let our party and our country down.
May your tenure be fruitful and truly remarkable. Once again, congratulations!
National Leader, Sam4Nigeri
