Lagos Govt Shuts Down Illegal Truck Terminal
Lagos State Governor Akinwumi Ambode has shut down an illegal bonded Terminal on Osho Drive at Ajegunle, known as Climax Bonded Terminal.
The Governor who went to Ajegunle due to complaints made by some concerned residents of the area over the activities of container trucks dropping their cargoes at the terminal ordered that all articulated vehicles within the Ajegunle axis should be evacuated within 24 hours while all the illegal terminal in the area should be closed until further notice.
He explained that “It’s bad enough that the roads here are single lanes and then I’ve gone round the whole Ajegunle axis and I’ve seen all the trucks all over the place, so I take over all the places called bonded terminals in Ajegunle from this moment, I shut this place down and all the agencies concerned should take my instructions, I do not no want to ever see this place opened again including all the other places that they have put the terminals and other places they have procured, I would not authorize any place that is residential as a Bonded Terminal, they remain under lock and key until I say otherwise”.
Ambode who ordered the Commissioner of Police to secure the sites, said all the Custom officers Manning the illegal terminal should clear off within thirty minutes.
He added that, there was no document in any of the relevant State agencies to show that the owners of the Terminal sought approval before converting the purely residential area into a business venture.
