Kwara LG Workers Suspend Strike

The Kwara State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) has called off its ongoing industrial action, with a call on members to resume work immediately.
Local Council workers in the State had in June embarked on strike to protestnonpayment of salaries.
In a statement signed by its Secretary, Comrade Afolabi Abayomi, the Union said itsdecision to suspend the industrial action followed the promise of the State governmentto assist local councils in paying a full month salary to their workers.
NULGE, therefore, urged its members across the 16 local government areas in the State to resume work immediately and continue to contribute to the development oftheir respective local communities and the State in general.
It would be recalled that the State governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed last week approved the release of N162m to augment local governments allocation for themonth of July to enable them pay a full month salary to their workers.
Governor Ahmed had also made a commitment to work with the council chairmen in finding meansto clear the existing backlog of salary and pension arrears at the local level.?
