Kwara Assembly Seeks End To Female Genital Mutilation

The Kwara State House of Assembly has called on the State Ministries of Health, Information and Women Affairs to embark on aggressive enlightenment campaigns against female genital mutilation across the state to safeguard girl child against complicated health challenges.
This is the resolution of the House, following the consideration of Motion titled ” Discouraging the Practice of Female Genital Mutilation, sponsored by member representing Ilorin Central Constituency, Hajia Segilola Abdulkadir.
Reading the resolution of the House, the Deputy Speaker, Elder Mathew Okedare, said the advocacy became imperative, in view of the overriding negative consequences of the practice, among the people of the State.
Hajia Segilola Abdul Kadir had while raising the Motion noted with displeasure that inspite of technological advancement in science and medicine the traditional method of circumcising the girl child still persist.
Similarly, the legislature has called on the Commissioners of Police in Kwara and Oyo States, to collaborate in finding enduring solutions to the crisis, between Transport Unions in Baruteen Local Government and Saki to safeguard loss of lives and property.
The resolution was sequel to the Motion raised by a member representing Okuta/ Yashikira Constituency, Hon. Adamu Usman.
The Legislature also called on the leadership of the two Transport Unions to prevail in their members, for peace to reign.
