Kwara APYF Raises Alarm Over Smear Campaign Against APC Guber Candidate

The Kwara State Chapter of the All Progressives Youth Forum (APYF), a youth group under the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), has cried out over a propaganda video tagged ‘Ramoni Dagboru’ allegedly orchestrated by Senate President Bukola Saraki.

In a press statement signed by the State Coordinator, Tunde Salau, he noted that the video portrayed the APC gubernatorial candidate, Alhaji Abdulrahman Abdulrazak as a trouble maker following the fracas that played out at the Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union (IEDPU) conference which held recently at the Emir’s palace.

The statement partly reads:

“While a response had already been given to the false accusation that the APC candidate was responsible for what transpired at that conference, judging by the fact that it was not Abdulrahman Abdulrazak’s supporters that were booing him, throwing chairs and shouting SAI LEADER; we must however make haste to expose their latest antics of pitching the APC candidate against the Alimi dynasty and the highly revered emir of Ilorin in particular.

“It is noteworthy to observe that Dr. Bukola Saraki knows the weakness of an average Ilorin person and he has always use this to a good political advantage. He knows that an Ilorin man would never joke with anything that touches the great Alimi dynasty and the Emir, being the symbol of Ilorin culture and tradition.

“This explains why during the politics of 2007, the same Bukola Saraki claimed that the late Mohammed Alabi Lawal, then the governorship candidate of the All Nigerian Peoples Party (ANPP) has sworn to depose the emir the moment he returns as governor. It was this falsehood, initiated and promoted by Dr. Saraki, that turned many Ilorin people against the late Governor Mohammed Lawal.

“It was therefore a familiar strategy that Dr. Saraki is again deploying when he said that Alhaji Abdulrahman Abdulrazak disrespected the emir and forced him to leave the scene of the IEDPU event as a result of his ‘bad conduct’. This is vintage Dr. Saraki playing on the emotion of Ilorin people and turning them and the emir against the APC candidate. A desperate man will certainly result to all the strategies and formulas in his play book; and that is exactly what Dr. Saraki is doing.

“For 16 years, beginning from 2003 till date; Bukola Saraki has held unto the levers of power in our State without any commensurate development. A man who in 16 years could not repair dilapidated infrastructures across the State is certainly ‘Ada’luru’ (town spoiler). A man who in 16 years couldn’t fix our deathtrap of roads is the greatest spoiler of not only our city but also our dear State.

“A man who allegedly sponsored armed robbers to attack the State and still went about boasting that he refunded more than what the armed robbers stole, without sparing a thought for lost lives, is indeed the ‘ada’leru dona ru’ of Kwara State. Indeed, a man who in 16 years couldn’t provide drinkable water to the people he claimed to love is indeed not only ‘ada’lu ru’ but also ‘ota ilu’ (enemy of our State and its people).

“We know and it’s clear to us that no man who enjoys total control of a people’s commonwealth the way Saraki does will relinquish it without putting up a fiercest fight. We know the desperate Saraki will fight even more dirty and malign the character of the opposition candidates just to temporarily veil the people’s eyes with emotion and escape the scrutiny of his bad leadership over the years. But the people are smarter, and they can definitely see beyond the emotional and sentimental game Saraki is playing.

“For the record, we would like to remind Dr. Bukola Saraki that the ‘Ot’oge’ slogan of our campaign is no longer just a message; it is a resolve of the people to take their destinies in their hands this time and put an end to the selfishness of a few ruling class that have consistently abuse public trust and mandate.

“Saraki and his hangers on may keep attacking our candidate, Alhaji Abdulrahman Abdulrazak; but we tell them that they are focusing attention in the wrong place. This is not about one candidate or even a party; it is about the people. We would see how Saraki will win against the iron cast resolve of the people to free themselves from nearly two decades of slavery and servitude.”
